Paints & Primers
PRIMERS:
- Zinc dust or zinc oxide in oil primers enhance resistance to corrosion.
- Butyral wash primers improve the adhesion of many exterior paints.
- Epoxy primers chalk excessively outdoors and require a compatible topcoat.
PAINTS:
- Asphaltic paints can be used to protect flat surfaces where water accumulates and in other corrosive conditions. Addition of fibrous filler and aluminum flake pigment may help prevent cracking on exposure to heat and sunlight.
- A two-coat paint system with a corrosion inhibitive primer is recommended for long-term corrosion protection. One-coat systems should be avoided.
